Job Description

Chief Financial Officer

The Foellinger Foundation

 

The Foellinger Foundation has supported Allen County nonprofits since 1958, focusing on mission-driven, well-governed, results-oriented organizations. Due to an upcoming retirement, we seek a Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic leadership and oversight of financial, investment, and administrative operations while ensuring fiduciary integrity and operational excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Strategic Leadership

 

  • Engage with Executive Team on strategic direction and long-term financial planning

  • Champion data-informed decision-making and serve as internal consultant to CEO

  • Foster continuous improvement culture and stay current with market, accounting, and philanthropic trends

  • Develop and present annual financial and capital budgets

 

Financial & Investment Management

 

  • Support Investment & Finance and Audit Committees in developing investment strategy and policies

  • Ensure investment manager compliance and oversee all accounting, finance, and treasury functions

  • Drive process improvements for increased efficiency and effectiveness

  • Maintain accurate financial reporting, multi-year forecasts, and internal controls

  • Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and professional advisor relationships

 

Administration

 

  • Oversee HR, payroll, benefits, technology systems, and risk management

  • Lead digitization efforts to streamline workflows

  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance

  • Conduct financial reviews of grant applicants and organize committee meetings

  • Mentor and manage one direct report

 

Ideal Candidate

 

Required:

 

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in accounting or finance with CPA/MBA preferred

  • 5+ years significant financial/accounting experience

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent computer skills and current technology knowledge

  • Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and presentation abilities

  • Commitment to Foundation mission and collaborative work style

  • Compliance and regulatory oversight experience

  • Strategic planning leadership or active participation

 

Preferred:

 

  • Nonprofit accounting and philanthropy knowledge

  • Investment management experience
