Another Source’s client, Narrative Nation, Inc., is recruiting an Operations Manager to join their fully remote team, with a preference for candidates based in the Northeast. This is an exciting opportunity to support a mission-driven nonprofit working to eliminate racial disparities in maternal and infant health by strengthening internal systems, improving operational efficiency, and supporting a growing team.

Narrative Nation, Inc. is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to addressing racial disparities in maternal and infant health through technology and storytelling. Their flagship project, Irth (as in “birth,” but without the “B” for bias), is the first-of-its-kind review platform that helps Black and Brown birthing people find and share reviews of maternity and pediatric care. Job Summary:

 

Narrative Nation is seeking a hands-on, solutions-oriented Operations Manager to build, organize, and oversee the daily operations of Irth and the broader organization. This role will design internal systems, integrate tools and workflows, support HR functions, manage key operational processes, and ensure smooth execution across programs and departments. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-moving start-up environment and brings strong organizational, project management, and people-centered skills.

 

Essential Functions

 

Operations & Administrative Management

 

  • Design and optimize key business processes and systems to support scalability.

  • Develop and manage daily operational workflows and cross-departmental policies.

  • Implement and maintain software for scheduling, productivity, and collaboration.

  • Partner with Product, Community Engagement, and Systems Change teams to build internal tools that track key metrics and enhance performance.

  • Coordinate with legal counsel on compliance and administrative matters.

  • Oversee vendor contracts, insurance policies, and relationships.

 

Human Resources & Staff Operations

 

  • Own the employee lifecycle—including onboarding, system setup, documentation, and offboarding.

  • Manage staff performance processes such as OKRs, evaluations, and feedback.

  • Maintain the employee handbook, HR protocols, and internal policies.

  • Support hiring processes including scheduling, documentation, and onboarding coordination.

 

Finance & Budget Tracking

 

  • Support budgeting, expense tracking, and coordination with external accountants.

  • Build internal systems for managing grants, reimbursements, and operational spend.

  • Ensure financial policies and procedures are documented and consistently applied.

 

Project & Process Management

 

  • Build and maintain cross-functional project systems, task tracking, and timelines.

  • Monitor departmental deliverables and progress, identifying blockers proactively.

  • Identify operational bottlenecks and propose improvements to systems and processes.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • 5+ years of experience in operations, HR, administration, or program management.

  • Experience in a start-up, nonprofit, or early-stage environment.

  • Demonstrated success in building internal policies or organizational processes.

  • Strong project management and time management capabilities.

  • Familiarity with productivity tools such as Slack, Asana, Google Workspace, and Airtable.
