About the Role

 

The Manager of Billing works directly with the Director of Billing Operations to oversee all billing, reconciliation, and collections for patient visits across Callen-Lorde. This role manages a growing team, develops and refines operational practices, ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and serves as a key resource for billing and insurance verification processes.

 

You’ll play a critical role in:

 

  • Supervising and guiding staff to ensure accurate, timely third-party revenue collection, including insurance verification and Medicaid authorizations.

  • Overseeing hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations for billing staff.

  • Maintaining the security, accuracy, and integrity of electronic and paper billing systems.

  • Collaborating with providers, finance, patient access services, and payers to resolve operational issues quickly and effectively.

  • Driving quality improvement initiatives within the department.

 

Work Schedule:

 

This is a full-time position with regular business hours (Monday - Friday). Occasional evenings may be required. Callen-Lorde's main site in Chelsea is open Monday through Saturday.

Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.

  • CPC, CCS, or CBCS certification.

  • 5+ years’ medical billing and coding experience,

  • 4+ years of supervisory experience.

  • Ability to lead, train, and mentor teams on complex processes.

  • Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, ACA plans, and private insurance.

  • Proficiency with EPIC EHR and Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Desired Characteristics, Skills

 

  • Strong written/oral communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience in an FQHC, Article 28 clinic, or similar healthcare setting

  • Knowledge of federal and NY State patient privacy regulations.

  • Commitment to the mission of Callen-Lorde.
