Location: Seattle, WA (Hybrid)
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary: $120,000 annually + 3% annual equity COLA

 

About the Organization

 

Puget Sound Sage and Sage Leaders are sister 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations working to build a living economy, advance racial justice, strengthen community power, and cultivate civic leadership across Washington State. Together they operate with a $2.5 million annual budget and a 15-person staff.

 

Position Summary

 

Puget Sound Sage seeks an experienced Executive Director to lead both organizations into their next chapter of impact. The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, oversee organizational operations and finances, guide fundraising efforts, strengthen board governance, serve as the organization's primary public voice, and build partnerships that advance community-centered policy and systems change.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Strategic Leadership

 

  • Lead organizational vision and long-term strategy.

  • Align programs, operations, fundraising, and organizational priorities.

  • Guide resource allocation and organizational growth.

 

Fundraising & Resource Development

 

  • Serve as the organization's lead fundraiser.

  • Partner with the Development Director and Board on fundraising strategy.

  • Build a strong culture of philanthropy across both organizations.

 

Board Governance

 

  • Serve as primary liaison to both Boards of Directors.

  • Support governance, strategic planning, and board development.

 

Operations & Finance

 

  • Oversee organizational operations and financial health.

  • Ensure strong internal systems and organizational infrastructure.

  • Lead management negotiations with the staff union.

 

Public Leadership

 

  • Represent the organization publicly.

  • Build visibility through media, advocacy, and public events.

  • Serve as a trusted spokesperson on organizational priorities.

 

Partnerships & Programs

 

  • Build relationships with community organizations, labor partners, government agencies, and movement partners.

  • Strengthen collaboration and program impact throughout Washington State.

 

Qualifications

 

Ideal candidates will bring:

 

  • Executive or senior leadership experience.

  • Experience leading staff, budgets, and organizational strategy.

  • Successful nonprofit fundraising experience.

  • Strong commitment to racial justice, community power, and democratic leadership.

  • Collaborative leadership style with excellent relationship-building skills.

  • Experience working with boards of directors.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations.

  • Understanding of advocacy and policy organizations.

  • Experience working with labor unions, grassroots organizations, and coalition partners.

 

Compensation & Benefits

 

Salary

 

  • $120,000 annually

  • 3% annual equity cost-of-living adjustment (COLA)
