The Hunger Project (THP) is a global nonprofit organization with a vision of a world without hunger. We facilitate individual and collective action to transform the systems of inequity that create hunger and cause it to persist. We operate in 22 countries with more than 300 staff and have mobilized over 500,000 volunteer leaders worldwide. Our programs across Africa, South Asia, and Latin America are based on an innovative, holistic approach that empowers women and men living in rural villages to become agents of their own development and make sustainable progress in overcoming hunger and poverty.
Position Summary
The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Global Operations and Human Resources provides strategic leadership to ensure effective and sustainable operations, aligning staff, processes, and systems to advance The Hunger Project's mission and strategic goals.
As a senior executive empowered to drive change, the SVP oversees Human Resources, Administration, Operations, Security, IT, and Operational Compliance, balancing global standardization with local empowerment.
The SVP is a senior leader who consistently models THP values, is a skilled communicator and collaborator, handles complex matters with diplomacy, and demonstrates a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
This is a full-time, fully in-person position based in The Hunger Project's Global Office in New York City. The role supervises the Associate Director of Global Operations and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
Essential Functions
The SVP operates at the highest level of organizational operations strategy, supporting a decentralized global model that provides standardization while empowering Program Countries to strengthen local capacity. The role works closely with leadership across the Global Office and country offices to solve cross-functional operational challenges.
Organizational Strategy & Leadership
Serve as a core member of global management to: 1) Manage global business operations; 2) Direct organizational strategy; 3) Ensure mission effectiveness; 4) Support financial stability and growth; and 5) Lead organizational change management.
Partner strategically with the CFO on global budgeting and financial compliance.
Partner with the Deputy CEO to align U.S. office operations and HR functions with global standards.
Operations Strategy & Oversight
Review internal processes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and effective resource utilization.
Partner with Global Risk Management and Global Grants & Compliance Leads to:
Manage operational risk.
Strengthen safety practices.
Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Strengthen Global IT and Security protocols to protect organizational assets, personnel, and partners.
Ensure country office operations support strategic goals through scalable and adaptable operational practices.
Collaborate with Program Country leadership, Global Grants & Compliance, and Partner Country grants teams to ensure operational and program commitments are adequately resourced.
Support new program launches, expansions, and pilot initiatives through operational readiness, staffing, and resource planning.
Identify operational bottlenecks and lead cross-functional solutions that improve program effectiveness.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the Global Operations Strengthening Initiative in partnership with the organization's affiliate entity.
Lead crisis management efforts by partnering with leadership and internal communications to support organizational safety and timely response.
Human Resources Strategy & Oversight
Develop a global People & Culture strategy supporting: 1) Talent acquisition and retention; 2) Leadership development; 3) Succession planning; and 4) Organizational culture.
Develop and oversee global HR standards and best practices, including: 1) Onboarding and offboarding; 2) Employee handbook development; 3) Compliance; 4) Performance management; and 5) Accessibility and belonging initiatives.
Support organizational design, role clarity, career development, and collaboration.
Lead internal investigations and coordinate external investigations involving personnel matters.
Partner with Global Working Groups, including: 1) Youth Council; 2) Staff Engagement Working Group; and 3) Inclusion Council.
Policy Development & Oversight
Lead development and implementation of operational policies that: 1) Uphold The Hunger Project's principles; 2) Ensure integrity, ethics, and compliance.; and 3) Meet legal and funder requirements.
Facilitate policy training for global staff.
Monitor compliance with organizational policies.
Stay informed of sector trends and update policy frameworks to align with industry standards.
Qualifications
Education
Required
Bachelor's degree or higher.
Preferred
HR certification.
Experience
15+ years of global operations and HR leadership experience within international NGOs or similarly complex global organizations.
Demonstrated success leading organizational change management.
Experience working across diverse international locations.
Experience managing safety, security, and IT risks in international environments.
Skills
