Job Description
Operations Manager; Director (Remote, Full-Time)
Organization: Tech Justice Law Project (TJLP)
Location: Fully remote (U.S. preferred)
Status: Full-time
Negotiable Start Date: Jan. 1, 2026
About the Organization
Tech Justice Law Project (TJLP) is a non-profit dedicated to advancing accountability, transparency, and justice in the technology sector. We use impact litigation, policy advocacy, and public education to challenge abuses of power by technology corporations and defend the rights of individuals and communities harmed by emerging technologies. We partner with grassroots organizations, advocates, and scholars to challenge unjust technologies, fight discriminatory practices, and build a future where technology serves the public good rather than undermines it.
Established in 2023 as a project of Campaign for Accountability, TJLP sits within a broader network of technologists, litigators, researchers, and advocates working to reimagine the legal doctrines and discourse that govern technology and corporate power in the United States.
The Role
TJLP is seeking an Operations Manager or Director (level commensurate with experience) to help build and oversee the internal systems, processes, and infrastructure that power a growing mission-driven legal and advocacy organization.
This role blends big-picture thinking and hands-on management, supporting the Executive Director and Managing Director in scaling operations, strengthening internal culture, and ensuring compliance and operational excellence. This role will play a critical part in shaping TJLP’s next phase of growth—including its transition to an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Impact & Effectiveness
Partner with the Executive Director to develop annual operating plans, budgets, and organizational priorities.
Establish clear goals, metrics, and reporting systems to track progress toward strategic objectives.
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen internal policies, and improve organizational efficiency.
Finance, Budgeting & Compliance
Manage TJLP’s financial operations, including accounting, expense management, and reporting.
Prepare and monitor annual and grant-specific budgets; produce monthly financial summaries and forecasts.
Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements, and relevant laws and regulations.
Oversee annual audits, insurance renewals, and compliance filings; manage vendor and consultant contracts.
Support board and advisory activities, including meeting logistics, materials, and minutes.
Human Resources & Organizational Culture
Lead all HR functions, including onboarding, performance management, compensation, benefits administration, and professional development.
Draft and maintain HR policies, handbooks, and employment agreements.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and values-driven organizational culture.
Manage staff retreats, professional development activities, and internal communications.
Plan and execute logistics for virtual and in-person meetings, trainings, and convenings.
Grants & Development Operations
Oversee grant tracking, compliance, and reporting calendars.
Partner with the Executive Director to support proposal budgets, donor acknowledgments, and documentation.
Maintain internal databases (e.g., CRM) and ensure accurate grant and donor record keeping.
Technology, Security & Knowledge Management
Manage the organization’s IT infrastructure, productivity tools (Google Workspace, Notion), and cybersecurity protocols with input from cybersecurity and management team members.
Implement best practices for data protection, access control, and secure communication.
Oversee digital file management, information retention, and document version control.
Qualifications
Required:
Minimum 5 years of experience in nonprofit operations, administration, or finance, including leadership experience in a growing organization.
Proven success managing budgets, HR systems, and compliance in a donor-funded environment.
Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and project management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and organizational discipline.
Commitment to advancing accountability within the technology sector, consumer protection, and civil and human rights.
Preferred:
Experience supporting or leading a 501(c)(3) formation or spin-out process.
Familiarity with legal services, advocacy, or litigation-based organizations with a strong social justice orientation in the non-profit sector.
Proficiency in modern nonprofit tools such as QuickBooks, Bill.com, Notion, Airtable, and GSuite.
Demonstrated ability to build equitable and inclusive organizational systems.
