About INHA

 

The Intermountain Natural History Association (INHA) is a small nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting public lands through education, interpretation, publishing, retail services, and collaborative partnerships with federal land management agencies and local communities.

 

INHA works closely with partners in the National Park Service (NPS), U.S. Forest Service (USFS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) to enhance visitor experiences and promote public lands stewardship.

 

INHA currently has four full-time employees and up to 16 seasonal employees. Annual sales in 2025 were approximately $1.3 million, with sales outlets located in Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming.

 

The Opportunity

 

INHA seeks a dynamic, mission-driven Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter.

This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic and collaborative leader who is passionate about public lands, education, and nonprofit sustainability. The Executive Director will provide overall leadership, ensure financial health, strengthen agency and community partnerships, and guide a dedicated team in delivering high-quality programs and services aligned with INHA’s mission.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide visionary leadership and implement strategic goals in partnership with the Board of Directors.

  • Ensure financial sustainability through sound budgeting, fiscal oversight, and revenue development.

  • Lead and support staff, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and mission-focused culture.

  • Oversee retail bookstores, wholesale trade, publishing operations, and related business functions.

  • Serve as the primary liaison with federal land management agencies and community partners.

  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, including annual audit/review and IRS Form 990.

 

The Ideal Candidate

 

The successful candidate will be a collaborative and strategic leader with demonstrated experience in nonprofit management, financial oversight, and organizational leadership.

 

They will bring strong communication skills, a commitment to conservation and public lands, and the ability to build productive relationships with Board members, staff, agency partners, and community stakeholders.

 

  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible leadership or administrative experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, public administration, natural resource management, or related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and public agency partners preferred.

  • Demonstrated financial management and operational oversight experience.

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to be bonded.

 

Work Schedule & Office Location

 

This is a full-time, exempt position located at INHA’s headquarters in Jensen, Utah.

The work schedule is generally Monday–Friday, but additional hours may be required to support operational needs, Board meetings, and mission-related activities.

 

Compensation

 

The starting salary range for this position is $60,000–$85,000 annually, plus benefits, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
