Soccer in the Streets is a nonprofit organization that creates opportunity through soccer, with a focus on underserved youth. Through station-connected soccer fields, life-skills programs, and community-based initiatives, we strive to build healthier communities and pathways to success for young people across Atlanta.

 

Position Summary

 

The Director of Finance & Operations is a key member of the leadership team responsible for ensuring the financial health, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability of Soccer in the Streets. With support of the Executive Director and in collaboration from other leadership team members, this role oversees all finance, accounting, operations, and risk management systems to support a growing and dynamic organization. The Director provides strategic leadership, builds internal capacity, and ensures resources are aligned to advance mission impact. This position reports to the Executive Director.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

1. Financial Strategy, Planning & Leadership

 

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, mid-year re-forecasting, and multiyear financial planning.

  • Develop financial models and scenario planning to support organizational growth and sustainability.

  • Provide timely financial analysis and recommendations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

  • Monitor cash flow, reserves, and investment strategies to maintain financial stability.

 

2. Accounting, Compliance & Reporting

 

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including AP/AR, payroll, reconciliations, and month-end close.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and all regulatory filings (990, audits, state registrations, etc.).

  • Manage the annual audit and monthly reconciliation process, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors and bookkeeper(s), and maintain strong internal controls.

  • Produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership and the Board.

 

3. Organizational Operations & Infrastructure

 

  • Lead daily operational functions, including IT systems, facilities, equipment, procurement, insurance, and vendor relationships.

  • Maintain and continuously improve internal operational systems for efficiency, security, and scalability.

  • Develop, refine and implement policies, SOPs, and risk management protocols across the organization.

  • Oversee operational support for programs, events, and community initiatives.

 

5. Program & Grant Financial Management

 

  • Work closely with program leaders to build and monitor program budgets.

  • Track restricted funding, grant spending, and reporting requirements in partnership with the Development team.

  • Provide financial data to support grant proposals, reports, and funder communications.

  • Ensure program resources are allocated effectively to maximize community impact.

 

6. Cross-Departmental Partnership

 

  • Collaborate with Development to support campaign budgeting, fundraising events, and financial stewardship of donor dollars.

  • Support Marketing, Communications, and Program teams with operational and financial information needed for storytelling and impact reporting.

  • Serve as an internal consultant to leaders and teams to strengthen financial and operational decision-making.

 

7. Board Relations & Governance

 

  • Prepare financial dashboards, narrative summaries, and operational updates for the Board.

  • Serve as staff lead for relevant Board committees (Finance, Audit, Operations).

  • Support governance best practices and provide data that informs strategic planning.

 

Qualifications

 

Required

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit finance and operations roles.

  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, fund accounting, and compliance.

  • Experience managing budgets, audits, financial reporting, and operational systems.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience supervising staff or contractors.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.

 

Preferred

 

  • CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced training.

  • Experience with youth development or community-based organizations.

  • Familiarity with accounting and HR systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Gusto, ADP).

  • Experience scaling operations in a growing nonprofit.

Compensation:

Compensation for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications. The final offer will be based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience and internal equity.
