The Opportunity
The Mozilla Foundation (Foundation) seeks a transformational and innovative Senior Director, People & Culture (Senior Director) to build and lead a strategy that will contribute to the transformation of the Mozilla Foundation into an exemplar of operational excellence and mission-driven culture. The Senior Director will build and uphold a people-centered vision and strategy, providing strategic, practical, and data-driven leadership in planning, developing and implementing policies, procedures and systems. In partnership with other organizational leaders, this role will help the Mozilla Foundation to fully meet the moment, and realize the power of its team and mission.
Reporting to the COO, the Senior Director will be a culture leader, sitting on the Leadership Team, advising the COO, organizational leadership and Executive Director on aligning robust human resources and culture strategies that advance the overall organizational mission and vision by attracting, supporting, developing, and retaining a talented and diverse organizational team of global employees. The Senior Director will oversee a team of three talented HR leaders and work across all departments to support organizational needs
Key Responsibilities:
Foster a people-first culture by implementing HR practices, policies, and processes that align with the Foundation’s mission, strategic vision, and commitment to an engaged and innovative workplace.
Serve as a strategic advisor to the COO and Leadership Team, providing proactive solutions for organizational, people, and culture challenges.
Work closely with the organization’s Leadership Team to establish sound talent management and workforce (planning) strategies that match the organization’s business model.
Keep current on trends in the field of human resources ensuring the Foundation remains competitive across various labor markets.
Design and evaluate learning and career development programs to support team growth and skill-building.
Regularly assess HR services, policies, and systems, making recommendations to enhance their quality, effectiveness, and efficiency.
Develop and implement comprehensive compensation and benefits plans that are competitive and cost-effective.
Lead, inspire, and develop the People & Culture team, fostering their learning and growth to empower them to be strategic partners across the organization.
Liaise with the Mozilla Foundation Programs Board on issues of executive compensation and other people-related matters.

Hands on Change Management Experience
The Senior Director will bring deep experience in change management, including identifying opportunities for innovation and transformation, implementing appropriate solutions and effectively communicating the ‘why’ for these changes. Proactive and insightful, the Senior Director will be a continuous learner, staying on the cutting edge of people and culture strategies nationally and excited by bringing new approaches to their organization.
People Advocate
The Senior Director will bring experience and understanding of leadership in a global setting and the ability to coach others to be exceptional leaders. They will have experience selecting, implementing, institutionalizing and continuously improving HR systems and policies that drive excellent and efficient operations, and ensure that people have the best experience they can from an employee perspective. The candidate should have a track record in designing measurable strategies that ensure that employees have access to what they need to succeed in their roles, are developed, treated fairly, have a voice and feel connected at the team and organization levels.
Relationship Builder
The Senior Director will be exceptionally skilled at building and sustaining excellent relationships and partnering with senior leaders and other managers to evaluate and resolve employee-related matters. Strong candidates will have deep experience developing and utilizing best in class internal communications. They will be a natural partner with a demonstrated ability to connect, build bridges, and establish trust.
In addition to the skills and experiences above, strong candidates will offer:
10+ years of experience in a People function for a global organization with experience in remote first environments.
5+ years of experience being a motivating leader focusing on impact, development and strategy.
Extensive experience being both hands-on and contributing to an organization’s strategic direction.
People technology skills including HRIS systems, ATS systems, and Performance Management systems.
A proven ability to effectively communicate across multiple levels of an organization.
Prior experience in overseeing People data and analytics.
Compensation & Benefits
The location for this role is flexible in the US, Germany, UK, or Canada and will manage a dispersed team.
The starting salary range for this role is listed below.
US: $156,800.00 - $176,204.00 USD
Germany: €122,617.60 - €137,791.53
UK: £101,606.40 - £114,180.19
Canada: $211,680.00 - $237,875.40
Some regions fall into a higher salary market, and this is reflected in the example ranges below:
London: £127,008.00- £142,725.24
New York: $196,000.00 - $220,255.00
