The Portland Gay Men’s Chorus (PGMC) is a premier Portland-based LGBTQ+ community chorus dedicated to artistic excellence, community building, and social justice. Through the power of voices raised in harmony, PGMC creates safe spaces, celebrates queer identity, and advocates for LGBTQ+ equality across the Pacific Northwest.
PGMC is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and visionary Executive Director to lead the organization’s business operations, fundraising strategy, financial management, and community engagement while partnering closely with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors.
Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief business and operational leader of the organization, with primary responsibility for revenue generation and organizational sustainability. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors and working in close partnership with the Artistic Director, the Executive Director provides leadership in fundraising, finance, operations, governance, marketing, and community relations to support the chorus’s artistic mission and long-term success.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Management & Governance
Implement, maintain, and improve the organization’s administrative framework, policies, and management systems.
Partner with the Board of Directors to develop and execute strategic initiatives.
Provide transparent financial reporting and organizational updates to the Board.
Support Board committee development and donor engagement efforts.
Ensure compliance with Oregon 501(c)(3) regulations, employment laws, licensing requirements, and venue contracts.
Fundraising & Financial Leadership
Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes: 1) Individual giving; 2) Major gifts; 3) Planned giving; 4) Corporate sponsorships; 5) Foundation support; and 6) Special events
Collaborate with the Board to establish and achieve annual fundraising goals.
Cultivate, steward, and strengthen relationships with: 1) Major donors; 2) Corporate sponsors; and 3) Foundation representatives
Develop donor stewardship strategies that improve donor retention, satisfaction, and re-engagement.
Research, write, and manage grant proposals for: 1) Local funding opportunities; 2) Oregon Arts Commission grants; 3) City of Portland Office of Arts & Culture grants; and 4) National foundations and arts funders
Develop and manage the annual operating budget.
Oversee bookkeeping, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
Coordinate annual financial audits.
Maximize earned revenue through: 1) Ticket sales; 2) Merchandise; 3) Community performances; and 4) Other revenue-generating opportunities
Production, Marketing & Administration
Manage logistics for concert seasons, including: 1) Venue contracts; 2) Ticketing platforms; 3) Insurance; and 4) Front-of-house operations
Lead audience development initiatives.
Oversee: 1) Season ticket campaigns; 2) Marketing initiatives; 3) Press relations; 4) Social media strategy; and 5) Community outreach
Supervise staff, contractors, consultants, and volunteers.
Support the work of volunteer committees and organizational initiatives.
Community Engagement
Serve as a visible ambassador for the organization throughout: 1) Portland’s LGBTQ+ communityl; 2)
The regional arts community; and 3) Funding and philanthropic networksFoster strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
Collaborate with elected chorus leadership to promote an inclusive, accessible, and supportive environment for all members.
Qualifications
Required
Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible nonprofit leadership experience, preferably within the performing arts or LGBTQ+ organizations.
Demonstrated success in: 1) Major gift fundraising; 2) Grant writing; and 3) Corporate sponsorship development
Strong nonprofit financial management experience, including budgeting, financial statements, and accounting principles.
Understanding of nonprofit governance and Board partnership.
Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB).
Strong understanding of the intersectional issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities.
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
Preferred
Experience with choral organizations or performing arts organizations.
Knowledge of Portland-area performing arts venues and cultural organizations.
Experience working with volunteer Boards of Directors.
Experience supporting volunteer-driven organizations.
Familiarity with donor databases and CRM systems.
Knowledge of the Portland metropolitan arts community.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary
$80,000–$95,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Full-time
Based in Portland, Oregon
Occasional evening and weekend work is required, including rehearsals, Board meetings, performances, fundraising events, and community activities.
